Where is Dyrham park?
This superb mansion and park are only 5 miles from The Annexe Yew Tree Cottage and is therefore only a stone throw away from Junction 18 of the M4. You can nearly get a glimpse of Dyrham Park from the A46.
Cotswold Way
For the walkers among you, it is worth stopping while hiking on the Cotswold Way which takes you on the perimeters of the estate.
Films
Of course, you will recognise the property from watching films such as the “Remain of the Days”, “Sense and Sensibility” or more recently in an episode from “Poldark”. It has also been used for filming in “Flog it” and “Antique Roadshow
Some history
The house was built in the 17th century and belonged to the Blathwayt family. Consequently it became a National Trust property in 1956.

Visit
The house is great to visit but the gardens and surrounding park are nice for wandering around. You can bring a picnic and check on the deer and more recently the cows. Although the site is quite hilly, you can use the bus which takes you down and up from the House however the walk is great for admiring the lovely setting.
If you wish you can join one of the rangers for a tour of the ancient deer park. You will get and insight on how the deer came to be at Dyrham Park and how they care for the herd. Visits start at reception twice a day.
The gardens
A lot of work has been done in the garden and they have created beautiful borders with ponds. They are beautiful all year round whether it is with tulips or herbaceous borders. Again tours are taking place everyday and you can learn about the wildlife and flowers in the garden

The village
The little village below the property is lovely with its beautiful stone houses and nice gardens. Do not forget either to visit the lovely little chapel which overlooks the mansion. St James Chapel is certainly worth a visit!
